Motorcycle Forks: So Often Neglected
The top two reasons people find this page
Reason 1: Leaking Fork Seals
There are some oily dirty marks on your forks so you clean them only to find the marks back again after a few miles or worse still you go out to your bike one morning and there it is, the dreaded oil puddle under one or both fork legs, either way blown forks seals are more than just a messy eyesore.
Left long enough the damping will be comprimised, the internals will start to grind and worst of all oil may find its way onto your brakes! NOT GOOD!
Reason 2: Poor Suspension Performance
Your forks play a huge roll in the handling of your motorcycle but dirt ingress, internal component wear and, mostly, the steady degredation of the oil quality heavily impact on their performance. Servicing your forks is very rewarding as you will get more feedback, more surefooted cornering and better braking from a well behaved front end.
In short you will feel the difference
A comprehensive service
Our approach to servicing your forks is simple, you send us the forks, we strip, clean, examine, report and rebuild them to the highest standard before returning them to you ready to go straight back on your bike.
Step by Step Approach
Step 1: Complete strip down, thorough solvent clean, dry and then careful inspection checking for wear and damage (special attention being paid to the bushes).
Step 2: Report back to you to confirm any extra work or parts required. *
Step 3: Polish fork stanchions to remove any damage and reduce stiction to a minimum.
Step 4: Replace oil seals, dust seals and where required any extra parts agreed by you at step 2.
Step 5: Complete the rebuild and refill forks with high quality fork oil of the correct weight.
We only use top quality parts, the seals are either genuine manufacturers items or high quality aftermarket components. Rockoil is our preferred oil however we do sometimes use other brands but only of an equivalent quality.
Want To Go A Step Further?
Stripping and rebuilding forks is time consuming and there is a cost involved so if there are any extras you would like then now is the time to have them done, don't miss out on this opportunity while your forks are already in pieces.
Upgrades: Stanchions
Rechroming - restore rusty or pitted stanchions. Using hard chrome which is a much harder, higher quality chrome than OEM and finished to an accuracy of 0.127mm.

Titanium Nitride Coating (TiN) - a very hard, low friction gold coating. Compared to chrome it has a higher hardness, a greater wear resistance and improved friction coefficiency reducing stiction.

Diamond Like Coating (DLC) - an extremely hard black coating. It is harder still than Titanium Nitride and has the lowest friction coefficient of any coating.

(Important Note: both TiN and DLC are thin coatings, they will not cover marks or scratches. We would recommend rechroming first if there is any damage.)
Upgrades: Outer Tubes - Fork Bottoms - Fork Caps - Rebound Adjusters - Pre-Load Adjusters
Anodising - an electrochemical process that converts the surface into a very thin coating that protects the aluminium. Can be coloured and is the factory finish on most 'upside down (USD)' fork outer tubes.
(Most suitable for machined surfaces: USD outer tubes; fork caps; rebound & preload adjusters)
Ceramic Coating - a state-of-the-art thin film polymer ceramic composite coating that creates a hard surface that is extremely resistant to scratching and other abrasion. Can be coloured or clear coat.
(Most suitable for: Right Way Up outer tubes; USD fork bottoms)
Upgrades: Mechanical
Re-Spring - forks too hard or too soft? Then changing the springs maybe the answer. We have a fork spring rate calculator which will quickly give you a base figure for the springs you require.
